The Deadlines for Writers online poetry group's sixth poem is due today. The prompt is "found." Below is the poem I submitted.
Treasure
When the marching band of life o’erwhelms,
And you’re caught in the drill and noise,
And every step that you take is ordained,
And you can’t hear your inner voice,
You start to wonder, “Why am I here?
“What is life? Just an empty pursuit?”
When your heart grows hungry for meaning and joy,
It’s time to dig down to life’s root.
Turn away from the noisy, restless life.
Where turmoil and tension abound.
Listen for that which is quiet and still;
That’s where treasure is found.
It’s the quiet soul that finds the truth
In the nooks and crannies within.
The wisdom inside begs to be heard,
But its soft tones may be lost in the din.
