The seventh poem for the year in the Deadlines for Writers poetry group is due today. The assignment was simply to use rhyme, alliteration, and assonance.
Love Note to the World
As I look down from my rocky perch
And watch the river swirl,
My lonely heart inscribes my
hurt -
A love note to the world.
Spring rains’ remains rage
through the gorge
Rushing to reach the sea.
I toss my words into the
flood,
My tears in search of
company.
The angry flood kidnaps a
branch,
The branch holds fast my
note.
My message, desperate to be
heard,
Fights to stay afloat.
The river pulls and tugs and
frets,
But love wins at the end.
My captive note struggles
loose
And races ‘round the river’s
bend.
Until my pleas can reach God’s
throne
And He can lead and guide me,
‘Til then, my pain’s out in
the world,
Not gouging holes inside me.
