 Here's my 202506 entry in the Deadlines for Writers Poetry Group using the prompt "like." It's a simple 4X4 rhyming ditty.

Behind every “like” on your media page

Is a purpose, apparent or not.

Is the like for the content of the message you shared

Or simply a way to say you’ve been got?

 

Did he like the picture, the message, the theme?

Did she like what the commenters said?

I like you, I hear you, I support you, my friend.

Let’s raise our shared past from the dead?

 

I agree with your political point, my friend.

My like might sway some to our point of view.

My “like” is a bullet I can fire at will

In the culture wars we’ve been conscripted into. 

 

A like is not simply a like these days

It can be many things in addition.

Enjoy the likes you get on your post,

And consider the liker’s intention. 

Thursday Thirteen - Edition 57

Thirteen Modules on my Yahoo homepage

I finally gave up using my Comcast homepage - it is just not very "friendly." I set up a Yahoo homepage that offers so much versatility and easy access to internet sites of interest to me. I have found the Yahoo homepage MUCH more useful and usable than the AOL, Bellsouth, or Comcast ones I have used in the past. Here are 13 of the modules I added to my homepage.

1. My bookmarks include about 15 blogs, a language translator, a Spanish practice site, Dictionary.com, and quick access to several companies that we do business with.

2. I installed the diet tracker. In the couple of days since I installed this I have eaten and exercised better. Somehow just seeing that on the homepage everytime I log on is encouraging to me.

3. I also enjoy my link to several words of the day modules: Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day, word of the day, and the Double-tongued dictionary. The DTDictionary is interesting. It presents newly-coined catchwords and references articles in which they were used. One from this week is lysdexia. You can figure this one out, can't you?

4. Another module I have at a click is Braingle. Braingle includes several interesting daily challenges: daily brain teaser, daily trivia, creativity exercises, and memory training activities.

5. New Urban Legends is another interesting module I can check without even a click each day. It connects to Snopes for validity checks on current urban legends.

6. I enjoy the daily comics module. I included Ziggy and Garfield to have a look at each morning.

7. Of course, I also included several news modules, including Local news and top stories from the Associated Press.

8. I have modules for my daily calendar although I haven't started using that yet. The paper one on our kitchen counter works well for us. I don't use the one on my phone either.

9. The Weather Channel right there on my homepage is convenient as well.

10. I am not a movie person, but I am alone on that limb. Having the Movies module on my homepage makes it convenient to check the local movie times for my DH and grandchildren.

11. I use my "To Do List" and "Note to Self" modules frequently. If something occurs to me while I am surfing, I just click to homepage and leave myself a reminder.

12. The TV listings are there if I ever want to use them.

13. Last, but absolutely not least, is the Bible Study module. It includes any version of the Bible along with all kinds of reference materials, Christian blogs, and current Bible-related news. I can set up a read-through-the-Bible program within whatever timeframe I choose. I can choose from several daily devotional guides online.
