Overused Words

As a life-long word-nerd, I found this linking of blogpost and news article interesting. Terry at Pruitt Communications wrote this post and linked to this article in USA Today by Sarah Karush, Associated Press Writer. I quote in part from the news article:

Lake Superior State University on Saturday released its 2006 "List of Words and Phrases Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness."

Words Lake Superior State has banished "for mis-use, over-use and general uselessness":

Surreal

Hunker down

Person of interest

Community of learners

Up-or-down vote

Breaking news

Designer breed

FEMA

First-time caller

Pass the savings on to you!

97% fat-free

An accident that didn't have to happen

Junk science

Git-r-done

Dawg

Talking points

Holiday tree

Terry at Pruitt Communications had some interesting comments on some of these. What do you think ? Which words/phrases would you add or delete?
