Impression, Sunrise by Claud Monet

The 8th assignment for the Deadlines for Writers poetry group was "ekphrastic," which, in simple terms, means response to art. Here is my submission  - a sonnet about "Impression, Sunrise" by Claud Monet.

In wispy mists, the ghosts of nighttime rise,

And drift above the water, chill and gray.

While warmth of morning sun ignites the skies,

To burn away the night and greet the day.

**

The bustle in the harbor has begun,

And fishers toil from rowboats in the bay.

Pale distant working arms reach for the sun,

As tranquil night slips silently away.

**

Still peace abides in waves now glowing gold

With honeyed light reflected from above.

This peace births hope; and I, now growing bold,

Draw strength to live this day in light and love.

**

Come breathe in this new day, My Friend, with me!

The morning air smells sweeter by the sea!
