Here's a quick listing of 13 interesting/strange/sweet/memorable sights from our recent cruise.
- All three sets of locks of the Panama Canal
- My first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean.
- The unbelievably turquoise waters in the Caribbean.
- The Centennial Bridge – the only bridge connecting North and South America - across the Panama Canal, just past the continental divide.
- Precious little 18-month-old Guatemalan boy sound asleep on top of the woven goods his mother was trying to sell to the tourists. Brandon David was blissfully unaware of the 90 degree heat and the crush of tourists and vendors crowding around.
- Four-year-old Ana and her big sister, seven-year-old Lucita, near San Jose, Guatemala, working hard to sell handcrafted dolls to the cruise-ship passengers. They happily agreed to pose for a picture in exchange for my purchase of some dolls.
- The beautiful scarlet Macaw pictured above in Puentarenos, Costa Rica. On that river cruise we saw 11 crocodiles, 8 scarlet Macaws, and numerous iquanas, herons, egrets, hawks and quetzals.
- “Live statues” throughout Cartegena, Columbia. It was startling to walk by what appeared to be a monument and suddenly realize that it was actually one, two, or three young men or women, completely covered in black paint and posing without moving.
- Four beautiful rainbows – two over the Caribbean, one over the Panama Canal, and one over the Pacific Ocean. All these rainbows were viewed from our balcony overlooking an expanse of water.
- An amazingly beautiful, diverse, and delicious 40-foot long chocolate buffet.
- The Mexican cuisine demonstration given by a French chef in Huatulco, Mexico.
- The breath-taking performance of the La Quebrada cliff divers in Acapulco, Mexico. Watching these divers climb the 140-foot cliff and dive into less that 10-feet of water was amazing. They had to time their dives with the incoming tide to have enough depth for the dive.

I wish you'd been here last night, when B's new game (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader) asked the question, "How long does it take a ship to get through the Panama Canal?" :=)
