An hour or so ago, a jury in Selmer, TN, concluded their short deliberations and announced a verdict. The lawyers didn't take long to present their cases and the jury didn't linger before convicting Mary Winkler in the death of her Church of Christ preacher husband, Matthew back in March of last year.
The interesting aspect of this verdict, to me, is that the jury apparently believed some of the tale of abuse and the "accidental" discharge of the gun while Mrs. Winkler pointed it at her husband, but they didn't buy the fact that she deliberately murdered him. They settled on a compromise verdict of guilty of voluntary manslaughter, and she will probably serve 3 to 6 years.
I am not sure what I think about this. I would like to read your comments.
