Questions - Thursday Thirteen

13 big questions Joan is currently mulling over (pondering, thrashing through, thinking about, puzzling about, ruminating on, or considering): How can intelligent, loving, concerned, patriotic adult Americans differ so dramatically and passionately in their opinions about the administration of our country? How has American society come to the place where we don’t recognize heroes when we see them? Hint: performers are NOT heroes. Sports figures are not heroes. Heroes unselfishly serve others. Oh my, I feel another blogpost coming on! Related to number 2 (You knew I couldn’t let that one go so quickly, didn’t you?) Why do the adults of our American society encourage children to believe that “success” is the same as fame and wealth? Why are so many American parents sabotaging their own children’s emotional and intellectual growth by refusing to let them experience the disappointments, failures, and hurts that are the building blocks of strong character? Why are so many American adults choosing to have children if they don’t want to be the adult in the relationship and actually do the job of parents? What can be done to help young couples stay together happily and thus avoid psychological damage to young children? (Three outwardly happy and prosperous young couples of our acquaintance have announced pending divorces within the last couple of weeks.) Who am I? Am I accomplishing what I was put here to do? How long will it take us to adjust to living in a 3 bedroom/ 2 bath/one-level home after living for years in a 5 bedroom/3 ½ bath house with a full basement and huge master suite with huge walk-in closet? Will I EVER finish going through all our belongings, deciding what to get rid of, packing what we want to keep, and finding a way to get rid of the other stuff? Are we making a big mistake to be moving even farther away from our daughter and her three children than we now live? Will I ever get another full night’s sleep?
