Seasons and Lessons

The prompt was "another." The deadline was today. Here's my submission:

Seasons and Lessons

In the Winter of my one precious life

I’m reviewing life lessons learned.

“If I’d known then what I know now…

If only I could have discerned….”

###

If I could live another life

Here on Planet Earth,

With this life’s experience and knowledge intact,

I would make some changes of worth.

###

In the early Spring, I’d slow the pace.

Take time to mull things over.

Weigh my options, savor bites,

Listen to friends and others.

###

I’d watch and think, let life unfold -

Figure out my life’s purpose.

I’d live each moment every day;

Keep my monkeys out of life’s circus!

###

I’d take better care of my mortal house –

It’s a treasure beyond compare.

I’d walk and run and eat good food.

I’d rest and breathe fresh air.

###

I’d not worry so about pleasing folks

Or deny my values just to belong.

I’d speak my mind and gauge my worth

By the harmony of my inner song.

###

I’d remember that love is always a choice

Made over and over each minute -

By the actions we take and the words we speak

The respect and grace we put in it.

###

But through the Summer and Autumn of life

If I have learned anything,

It’s that life is today, and today, and today.

How I wish I’d understood that last Spring!
