Loneliness

"I'd rather be alone than be lonely." I read this line recently and I think it expresses a primary reason for the depression that seems almost universal in our society. I would have said, "I'd rather be lonely alone than with someone else." We can and do "interact" with others almost constantly, superficially greeting others by phone, text, email, and social media; but there seems to be little togetherness, little understanding, little internal sense of being "with" someone. We all seek connection and yet avoid it by talking about everything except who we are. "Touchy-feely" has been a joke for years, but isn't being "touchy-feely" how we get really know each other? I know I've over-shared on social media for the last few days; I guess I'm showing my own hand here. Thoughts have to have an outlet, don't they?
