Thanksgiving 1993

 This handwritten poem was in that old 1992-3 writing notebook I found yesterday. It was heavily edited, with lots of crossouts and margin writings. Obviously I never finished it. Here's what was written and not crossed out.

Giving thanks for all you had throughout the year,

Family and all that you hold dear.

Laughter of friends in crisp Fall air,

Gratefulness that your table is not bare.

Remembering cheerful times of long ago;

Appreciating people whom you know.

Crunching dry leaves beneath your feet,

Anticipating gathering for the feast.

Thanking God your home is safe and warm;

Seeing trees in hues of red and orange.

"First fire" smoke wisps drifting in the air,

Crusty layers of frost on windows in the morning.
