The Whisper of Hope

 The sixth poem of 2022 in the Deadlines for Writers group is due today. For the prompt of "Whispered", I wrote a free verse poem titled, "The Whisper of Hope."

The Whisper of Hope

Yesterday. Today. Endlessly.

Life’s anxious voice booms.

Swallowing souls. Devouring hope.

A cacophony, loud and tragic, shouts

Discord! Despair! Deception, Death!

A still small voice inside me whispers, “Listen to the music.

Listen for that quiet melody of faith and peace.”

I breathe. I wait. I listen.

The music of hope rises;

The discordant world recedes;

The gentle voice of faith and peace surges,

Speaking truth in quiet whispers.

My heart responds, and my arms lift,

Reaching for the beauty of the whisper.

Peace moves my feet to slide toward the proffered haven.

I spin and sway to the rhythm of the tune within.

I dance to joy.

I lift my arms to hope.

I step confidently into harmony with grace and rhythm.

My heart moves my body in answer to

The whisper of peace.

The whisper of faith.

And the quiet truth of hope.

This is so moving, Joan. I felt myself tense up and then release that tension, making me aware of how often these days I spend tensed up because of the awful things going on around us. Then, with a shift of focus, breathing out that tension to feel the peace and comfort only available through focusing on Christ, our savior, and the eternal verities!
