The Yellow House by Van Gogh

The fifth poem for 2022 is due today in my Deadlines for Writers group. The assignment was to write an ekphrastic poem. Simply stated, an ekphrastic poem is a poem about a work of art. There are no line, rhyme or rhythm standards.  The most famous ekphrastic poem I am familiar with is "Ode on a Grecian Urn" by Keats. My submission this month is based on

The Yellow House by Van Gogh.

My Yellow House

I want to live in a yellow house-

A yellow house by the sea.

Sunshine lighting the day;

Creamy sand for my play;

And hope shining gold around me.

In my golden world

I’ll joyously swirl

Tart lemonade over ice in the shade;

Half-moon peaches will swim in sublime

Yellow cream after dinner each day.

Gold will abound in my yellow world.

I’ll have honey o’er biscuits for tea.

If you’d like to visit my golden life,

Come to my snug yellow house by the sea.

While reading this I had the thought that Van Gogh might have had that dream when painted the yellow house.
