Young Adults, in the newness of their independence, have no idea how much time, love, and heart their parents and grandparents have invested in their lives. The following poem is written specifically for each of our grandchildren.
(2022-04 Deadlines for Writers. The prompt was "standard." )
Child of my child;
Heart of my heart;
Standing tall at the helm of your sturdy ship,
You begin your long-awaited journey.
Sailing away from the safety of our port.
Years we labored, in partnership with you,
To build a ship that will weather the storms of your journey
Now we stand ashore, alone, hearts bursting with pride and love,
Tossing wishes and prayers into the waters to see you on your way.
A prayer for strength to face challenges with confidence!
A wish for wisdom to choose worthy battles.
A prayer for direction and focus
Tempered with grace to alter your route to help others along the way.
We loft entire bouquets of prayers that
Your ears will always be tuned to your heart.
Listening. Taking Risks. Risking with care!
Wherever your journey leads,
Remember you are loved!
Your ship is strong and seaworthy.
Homeport is always open,
And hearts here are rejoicing in your successes.
